Hi All,

Fedora 28, x64
Xfce 4.12

I have noticed lately when opening and saving files, that
my folders (directories) are mixed in with my files in
alphabetical order. This annoys the snot out of me. Is
there a way to tell them to put the folders at the top
like it use to do?

Many thanks,
-T

Hello. It should be possible from the context menu. Just click RMB
somewhere on the empty space in that window and there should be "Folders
before files" option or something like that.

"Just click RMB somewhere on the empty space in that window"

How is that done? I don't understand "RMB."

Thank you. I guess I should have recognized that, but I had already
tried that and found no option to re-order the listing ...

Maybe it looks different on Fedora, I use Xubuntu 18.04. This is how
"Save As" window looks in my Thunderbird for example - https://ibb.co/dvJuCp

The menu entry visible under the mouse cursor is "Folders before files".

Not on my pretty much new 18.04 Thunar it doesn't.

You sure you've not got our team experimental ppa with Gtk3 Thunar
installed?

Cheers

I use experimental and daily builds PPAs only on my testing 18.10
install. My main 18.04 is without those, so I'm on Thunar 1.6.15 right
now. That "Save As" window on screen was from Thunderbird 52.9.1

But isn't "GTK3 file chooser" window not related to Thunar at all? At
least I think it's not.

For me, it offers the possibility of showing, or not, the hidden files, but there is nothing about Folders Before Files..

Try this command - |"gsettings set org.gtk.Settings.FileChooser

Thanks, but alas:

$ gsettings set org.gtk.Settings.FileChooser sort-directories-first true
-bash: gsettings: command not found

Cheers,

Ron.

In Settings select what I think in English is called File Actions. There you may select
"Sort directories before files".
